2016 Italian Festival Saturday, October 15, 2016 (12P-6P)
The Italian Festival committee has decided to move the festival from Saturday 10/1 to Saturday October 15th. The festival will feature 6 hours of music, food, wine/beer, art and fun for the entire family. The plan is for the festival to start at noon and continue until 6:00 p.m. – well into the evening dinner hour – kind of a replacement for the annual “After Party”.
Food Court Restaurants: The Breakers On The Ocean, Spring Lake Manor, Ray’s Café, Joseph’s Delicatessen, On Third Café & Coffee Company, Spring Lake Pizza, Spring Lake Tap House, Benny’s Pizza and Brandl
The committee has selected Lou Russo of 94.3 The Point as the Italian American honoree of the festival. Therefore, Morris Avenue is being renamed “Lou Russo Boulevard” for the day. It will be closed between Third & Fourth Avenues and a huge tent will be set up to assure a rain or shine festival with lights being turned on for the evening festivities.
Chamber member restaurants, cafes and delicatessens will form an al fresco Italian Food Court. Many other vendors will be joining in with zeppoles, baked goods, honey, macaroons and much more. Music will start at noon and we're confirming the Rick Martin Orchestra to begin the festival. The goal is to have folks stay, or return, for dinner and music – dancing if they wish – with the full festival day of vendors and member retailers and businesses keeping their booths open and active right till 6:00 p.m. We are hoping that many of the stores in the business district will also stay open till 6:00 p.m.
The plans for the daytime entertainment include face painting, balloon twisting, jugglers, an Italian car display, mock horse races, a spaghetti eating contest and much more. The Annual Art Walk along Third Avenue has been a big part of the festival since day one and this year it will only be bigger and better because the Seward Johnson Life-size Sculpture Exhibit will have just been dedicated on September 17th, and, we are sure, will bring in many additional visitors to the downtown.
We are grateful to our primary sponsors: Coast Honda, Sea Coast Chevrolet and Manahawkin Jeep for helping to make our festival a huge success.
As part of our Columbus Day celebration we are having our Third Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 10th at Spring Meadow Golf Course, Atlantic Avenue, Wall. A day of golf with a continental breakfast, lunch and prizes with an 8:00 a.m. Shot Gun Start for $135/golfer. Sign-up at Kate & Company,1100 Third Avenue or Spring Lake Custom Golf , 1221 Third Avenue or the Chamber of Commerce , 313 Washington Avenue.
